…Get it? Wrap up? Ok., I’ll stop.

So, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and all that stuff. Can you believe that it’s 2009 already?

I actaully celebrated Christmas on December 25th this year. My family tends to celebrate what I’ve dubbed Rafuse Orthodox Christmas. It falls on the day closest to Christmas that everyone can get together.

I did minimal decorating in the apartment, but did manage to put up a rather nice tree. Space is very limited in the apartment, and because of that I decided to go without a tree last year. Then I discovered that not having a tree made me sad, so I bought a small pre-lit tree and called it done. This year I bought some small sized decorations to put on it. I tried putting on my normal sized decorations, but it looked silly. In any case, the tiny star that I found in a random aisle at Wal-Mart worked perfectly. The fun part is that I searched the Christmas decoration section for a while, found no trace of tree toppers large or small, and then gave up the search. I wandered through the pet supply aisle for something and found the little star lying discarded on a random shelf. A Christmas miracle? You decide.

I managed to get all of my sewing projects done before gift giving time. I ended up finishing a few after Chrsitmas, but that was ok, since I wasn’t giving these out until Yomper’s post-New Year LAN party. Let’s hear it for procrastination!

My roommate and I had decided to not give each other presents. He has gift giving anxiety and neither one of us has room for extra crap. I woke up on Christmas Eve morning and found a gift under the tree for me. The roommate had gotten me an Ipod, engraved with my name on it. Surprise! I felt a little guilty, since I didn’t get him anything, but I really do appreciate the gift. I’ve been wanting an Ipod for a while now.

The weather on didn’t cooperate. Depending on what part of the road you were on, it was raining, snowing, sleeting, or a combination of all three. I had to pick up a couple of last minute things and discovered that 9am on Christmas Eve is a great time to shop. The 2 stores that I went to were nearly deserted.

I trekked down to the Kingdom to spend Christmas at my sister-in-law’s parents’ place. My brother and sister-in-law were there, of course, and my siter and her husband made it down from PA, even after the icey roads added another couple of hours on to their driving time. At my brother’s suggestion, we all wnet out and played in the snow. It was a blast. The rest of Christmas was the nice kind of chaos that comes from having to many people in too small of a space. Alyssa slept through most of her first Christmas.

I spent New Year’s eating yummy food and playing poker with BlueMule and friends. They were more than happy to take my money. As a consolation prize, I scored a recipe for some tastey chicken divan. All’s well that ends well, right? Actually, I had a blast, and it was still cheaper then going out. I must be getting old, because for the last few years I have had absolutely no desire to go out to the bars on New Year’s Eve.

Yomper had his annual LAN party that Friday. I ended up using his wife’s computer because mine just isn’t up to running any new games. This worked out for me because that meant I didn’t have to schlepp my system to his place. We played Left 4 Dead all day long. Let me say that this game is the bomb diggity, and I’m not usually a huge fan of first person shooters. I’ve been playing the Xbox version with the roommate since late November. The basic concept is that it’s the zombie apocolypse and a team of 4 survivors is trying to, well, survive. With 5 players, we decided to try the versus mode.

Playing the infected is even more fun than playing the survivors. It was with glee that I did all of the ***-y tricks that the zombies have done to me in various run throughs of the main game. Smoker dragging a survivor into a witch, resulting in eviceration? Check. Boomer standing on top of a car with a sensitive alarm, so that shooting the Boomer results in alerting the zombie horde? Check. Multiple infected completely screwing over the survivors? Check and check. Playing this game with 8 players (4 survivor, 4 infected) would be insanely fun.

So, how have you been?

If you and your TF2 mates already tired of the same old daily pub scrim-palloza and are looking for new challenges, you might want to head on to the Malaysia Team Fortress 2 Ladder. Created by hcaz, one of the members of tournament winning teams - kHz and Acolyte Gaming, MYTF2L should be an interesting addition to local competitive TF2 scene who only had two competition so far, which are e-Club Orange Box Party and Chirstmas LAN Party.

Upon browsing around the MYTF2 official website, we saw quite a number of team already signed up for the ladder, which already opened since early December. Interestingly, these teams not only came from Malaysia but all over Asia. We saw couple of teams from India, Indonesia and even some dudes from Japan, among the many!

That being said, we barely see any activities going on currently. Most probably the Christmas and New Year holiday bugs are still around. Nevertheless, we wish all the best things to the folks at MYTF2L. *thumbs up*

Vrogy is a 3D artist that has been working towards the creation of a full sized Terran Marine suit of Armor (StarCraft II Style). We first showcased his progress

Past the sketch/drawing phase now, hes started the 3D modeling in

Ive been working on models to build the Starcraft II marine suit from. The first step is to rough things out in low-polygon resolution, thats about done.

Next comesNURBSing to smooth things out and add details with an eye towards accuracy, then modeling of the mechanical exoskeleton which will, hopefully, make the suit wearable. Might end up using some of those fancy SolidworksCAEtools finally, too.

Vrogy not only creations fanworks for the StarCraft universe, but other games as well, check out his Halo work:

While it takes real effort to break latest versions of Windows XP (Service Packs 2 and 3) networking implementation remains surprisingly fragile. Both legitimate software (antivirus, firewall) and malware can try to (ab)use network connectivity and end up breaking something.

Unfortunately resulting number of symptoms and errors is beyond what can be reliably diagnosed and fixed by average user. And when fine tools don’t work you need a hammer. For networking errors that would be WinSock Fix.

What it does

WinSock Fix basically nukes network-related registry settings returning them to defaults . Sounds harsh – and it is. Such approach can easily break some third party software but if network is not working anyway it can’t really get worse.

It is hard to define when exactly it is time to use this one:

complete loss of network connection;

TCP/IP, DHCP errors;

malware encounters resulting in above;

definitely qualify. In other cases – somewhere near it’s hopeless stage.

Frozen in time

App feels really ancient with last version released back in 2003. Networking is rather slow area and it still may serve as silver bullet rather often.

Overall

Must-have for any PC-maintenance set, must-know for everyone who uses network connection (and is lucky enough to not be pushed on Vista). Not portable (main function is making registry changes) but works without installation making it readily usable just lying in the corner of flash drive . Developer’s site is long dead but app is available from plenty of software portals.

While waiting for the food to arrive..

My peanut tong sui.. Love it so much!!

Mum’s dunno what ubi tong sui.

My something chicken chop. Got some fancy scmancy name one.
Just normal deep fried chicken chop.

The takoyaki in OU is so much better I swear!

Ham yu fah lan po with rice beneath.

The porridge was a little tasteless.

The Udon was a total money waster man.
So many fishcakes, so little noodle.

The fah sang hu was the best thing I had the whole dinner there. If you have a thing for peanuts, go try it. It’s good.

31/12/08

I spent new year’s eve at my dad’s’ friend’s housewarming party. I was like the only one there who did not know any of the kids around. Everyone was socializing like normal friends, I just stoned and ate the curry chicken. It was good larr.. =p

I also started <strike>stalking</strike> taking pictures of this little boy, he has attitude man. He doesnt let my mum take his pictures and gives her di cheeky grin. Freaking cute!

First shot.

Blurred.

I told him to smile for me, and he did! Hahaha.

Caught you!

One nice normal shot larr.

Then, there was this little girl. Who was amazed by my turn turn phone. And she..

*stares* who is that?

She holds it against her face apparently trying to get inside.

And she started to camwhore with it.
Told you it’s easy to camwhore with the turn turn phone =)

Came home and got caught in a massive jam. The whole road was filled with cars illegal parking by the sides of the roads. People were crossing the highways dangerously, drunktards were tailing people’s car.

To the new batch of Form 5s, it’s time to get serious and start studying!! It’s SPM year babeh…

We can finally start to get our license. Too bad I have no sense of direction, don’t think i’ll be allowed to drive much. Must less pass that driving test.

P/s. this is just so cute =)

I dreamt about the same exact dream again. Read the post below to know more. Except that this time, I didnt fall through a hole. I dreamt of being chased. By what? I have no idea. So again, I went to search for an explanation..

Am I feeling so insecure lately that all my dreams have something to do with it? I dunno.

Is it a message I am suppose to be aware off? A message from my subconcious?

*editted

So I was chatting with Melinda, she wwanted a new email address. I always call her Mel-a. So I gave her one.

you can read it both ways, it’s mela bitch or it’s me LA bitch! So we started coming up with lame convos.

*; melinda ;* says:
friend: can i have your email add ?
me : can, it’s me la bitch!

One of the essential needs of mankind (other than food, clothing, and shelter) is entertainment. We have had many forms of entertainment since the dawn of the human race such as dancing, singing, chanting, and acting. Many of these forms of entertainment have become traditions to many cultures from across the globe. No matter what taste a society may have, they have their own form of entertainment.

People have been playing games for many reasons; some of them are to relieve them of boredom, others to escape the harsh realities of life, and some to simply relax. Regardless of what reasons they have, games have been played by everyone. The evolution of video games has come hand in hand with technological advances that may or may not be directly involved with them. We have come a long way since the days of Pac Man and Space Invader. One discipline that has helped the development of video games has been computer Networking.

Computer Networking

This is the act of connecting computers or a network of them together. This can be the connection of computers and other devices. We see this through connecting devices such as modems, webcams, fax machines, and printers to our computers.

LAN

A local area network connects computers within a room, house, or building. Gamers have experienced the advantages of playing video games that utilize computer networking. Multiplayer games such as first person shooters, real-time strategy games, and racing games have been popular amongst gamers. They have been able to play on computers that are connected, and are able to interact with each other within the game. This has made video games an increasingly social activity, unlike before when people would just play by themselves, or with just one other player at a time. With a local area network, 10-20 players are able to engage in a game at the same time.

Online games

It’s quite obvious that the Interne has forever changed the way we interact with each other. So much information can be found on the Internet, and an endless number of activities are available online as well. A lot of games nowadays are “playable” online. For this reason, gamers are able to interact with other players from all across the globe. You could be living in Ohio and be playing a shooting game with someone from Barcelona. This also spawned a new game genre called massively multiplayer online role-playing games.

More popularly known as MMORPGs, massively multiplayer online role-playing games have become really popular amongst kids, teens, and adults of all ages. It allows players to go around in a virtual world and develop a particular character. The great thing about it is that thousands of players from around the world could be playing in the same game with you at the same time. You would be able to interact with these players by trading items, dueling, teaming-up, or simply just chatting.

Computer Networking has been developing at a rapid rate, and more advancement in gaming are sure to come. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride.
