Got around to playing OpenArena 0.8.1 today. It was really fun. OpenArena … “OpenArena is a Free Open content package for the id tech3 GPL source code package. But why is it a game? Well you see one of the great side effects of making content for a bunch of source code out there is that it becomes a playable game itself. This opens more opportunity for FUN to the end user because they have another option to play a game that you couldn’t play without the data because now there is data made for it. And since this data created is also FREE, it’s very redistributable. Meaning more people can play it with little effort on obtaining it. This is A Good Thing.”
So its a free software shooter made with the Quake 3 GPL source. I uised to play quite a bit of OpenArena a few years back when I worked for OpenSourcery. The game has come quite a long way since then and it was fun fragging as the new assasin. Had an idea to have a sort of lan party with friends. I have three computers that are good enough to run OpenArena. I also have a Wii and Super Nintendo setup in the living room. I am thinking these games might be fun to play with friends during an Kart Wii
Back in the day I used to host lan parties with Quake(the original) and Starcraft. Good times.
