Surprisingly fun game…strategy plus creativity equals hours of fun.
This is a very fun game where you create creatures by adding different body parts from two animals. There are artillery, missile, melee, fliers, underground units, swimmers - each with special abilities depending on the underlying creatures. It sounds complex, but playing it solo actually limits your choices at first, making it simple to learn. I spent untold hours on this game until I could beat each level on ‘expert’ mode consistently. The only problem I had with the game was that some creatures ended up being significantly more powerful than others. Fliers are (nearly)useless, swimmers require a water creature builder making it too costly to compete at tougher levels, and artillery units just end up killing your own creatures (including themselves). Piercing attacks (horns, quills) are superior at higher research levels than other missile or melee attacks, rendering many builds useless. Level one creatures are pointless and easily destroyed by a sonic tower or two. Through all these balance issues, this is still one of my all time favorites!

Just What I’d Been Looking For
The free downloadable “Insect Invasion” expansion pack is a must. You haven’t really experienced the full joy of playing Impossible Creatures until you add all of the new animals and abilities that come with Insect Invasion. There are also plenty of maps available from websites like that of “Impossible Creatures Planet”, which is also a great place to go for online play.

I was into StarCraft and Command & Conquer before I found this game. I enjoyed the strategic element of real time strategy games, but battles were often far too long. Not so with IC, I can sit down and play a battle against 1 to 5 computer opponents and finish usually within half an hour.

My kids will watch me play games on the computer, so I prefer something like IC that really isn’t any more violent than Pokemon. When animal units are killed, they just vanish from the screen.

This game has more of a creative element than probably any other RTS. You design the creatures for your army choosing from over 80 different species (with the expansion pack). It’s really fun to mix and match coming up with such odd combinations as a hippopotamus plus a dragonfly, a moose-lobster, or a bombardier beetle with the body mass and face of a sperm whale. If you’re like me, you will end up creating multiple armies–each one suited to a particular type of battlefield.

This game actually saves me a lot of money. I have been addicted to IC for six years now, and still never tire of it for any long length of time. I’ve pretty much lost interest in any other RTS games and have purchased far fewer video games of any sort since discovering Impossible Creatures.

The graphics are no longer top-of-the-line, but like any great game, it’s not all about graphics. In my opinion, the graphics are very good and were they much better, chances are it would be hard for your computer to keep up with the action of dozens of units battling on the screen.

There is a great deal of strategy and creativity involved that give this game lasting appeal. The computer is hard enough to beat on expert mode, but you can catch on to computer patterns and learn to exploit them. Taking on human opponents is an altogether different challenge. So, if more than one family member is likely to enjoy this kind of game, and you have two computers in the house, I would recommend picking up two copies. I own several and have sold a few to friends.

The only other games I have ever enjoyed nearly as much or as long are the 2D turn-based Worms games like Worms World Party, and the multiplayer modes of various incarnations of Bomberman.

Great Game
Impossible Creatures is a fun game that allows you to create your own animal/creature. I was compelled to buy the game after downloading the demo from Microsoft’s website. The game is easy to learn and fun to play. The copy of I received wasn’t in a jewel case, but rather a DVD type case. IMPOSSIBLE CREATURES

pc game
Purchased for grandson.. He loves the game and plays for hours. What more could I ask for.

Simply a Great Game
I played this with my 7 year old daughter for a few times, and help her every now and then, but for the most part she plays the game by herself. I’ve turned a few other kids onto it as well, and they all love it. It is just a great idea for a game, how can it not be fun to mix a dragonfly with a gorilla to create a dragonilla? And the game modes really teaches the kids a bit about economics in the sense that there is a cost to everything, and resources should not be wasted etc. I’ve bought a lot of (mostly crappy) kids games in my time, this one rises way above the rest. The main negative on this one is that it does not support internet play against friends, and it also has some expansion packs that are tricky to install.
