Noi della Task Force dobbiamo fare una confessione: in occasione della manifestazione presso il T@urus di Cirie’, durante il quale abbiamo avuto modo di sollazzarci tra di noi nell’Arena predisposta per mostrare i videogiochi su Linux, ci siamo divertiti cosi’ tanto, ma cosi’ tanto, che abbiamo deciso non solo di replicare l’evento ma di rendere a tutti gli effetti il LAN party uno dei nostri strumenti di promozione al software libero. Dopo rapida consultazione nella mailing list interna abbiamo ingegnerizzato meglio la cosa, e siamo riusciti ad unire il “dilettevole” al “molto dilettevole”: la nostra intenzione e’ di organizzare una serie di LAN party, tutti rigorosamente in salsa open, in alcune birrerie sparse per la citta’ di Torino, in modo da interessare gli avventori dei locali, coinvolgerli direttamente e, tra una birra ed una missilata, introdurli al software libero. Un modo alternativo e divertente di propagare la conoscenza su Linux e le applicazioni a codice aperto, facendo leva su quello che ai fatti e’ uno degli interessi di punta del pubblico ma anche uno dei piu’ radicati luoghi comuni sul tema: troppe persone sono ancora convinte che non sia possibile giocare e svagarsi su Linux, e siccome a poco valgono le parole e le affermazioni contrarie l’unica scelta e’ quella di scendere in campo armati di lanciamissili virtuale. I nostri LAN party saranno in primis basati su OpenArena, grazioso sparatutto in prima persona costruito sul codice sorgente di Quake 3 Arena (rilasciato in licenza GPL qualche anno addietro) e pacchettizzato per tutte le maggiori distribuzioni, ed ovviamente saranno aperti a tutti coloro che vorranno prendervi parte: per problemi logistici al momento non sono previsti nostri computer da mettere a disposizione dei curiosi, ma chi vorra’ entrare nella mischia non dovra’ far altro che portarsi il proprio portatile con il gioco installato ed entrare in rete locale. Da notare che OpenArena e’ disponibile anche per Windows e MacOS: non siamo intolleranti, dunque ci accontentiamo anche se vi presentate con tali sistemi operativi ed il gioco sopra menzionato (gratuitamente scaricabile dal sito), avremo poi modo e maniera di convincervi nel corso della serata a passare all’altra sponda… Nei prossimi giorni ulteriori dettagli sulla prima tappa dell’Open Gamers Tour, gia’ in fase di preparazione, dunque non vi resta che continuare a seguire queste pagine e… allenarvi a casa!
