There is going to be a party at my house this weekend! Not your usual party though as it is a LAN party! “Geek weekend” as a friend of mine told me a few days ago
I’ve decided to throw a LAN party this coming Labor Day weekend running from Saturday evening into Sunday. The start time would be approximately 7:00PM for gaming and obviously people can show up throughout the day prior to this time. Based off past parties I don’t see anything wrong with the old $15-$20 cover charge (based off how many show) to cover ordering food stuffs. As for games the big key, must have game, will be Battlefield 2. You can pick up BF2 plus the Special Forces add-on for $20 at any Best Buy so it’s hardly a bank breaker, and if you’re really crazy you can spend $40 and get that as well as the other two smaller expansion packs of Euro-Force and Armored Fury. Another game that may be worth while to pick up would be BF2’s sequel Battlefield 2142, its game play is a little more fluid and faster paced then BF2. However since it’s still in the $40 range I’m not going to require it thought it would be a huge boon to have. Otherwise the normal staples will be there, namely Counter-Strike, Half-Life 2 Death Match, and maybe a few older shooters. It’s an open invite so as long as you have the games and a rig to play them on reliably you’re in if you wish to attend. So far my confirms are; Sam, Dan, Reppert, Sean Glover, “Neighbor” Dave, and myself for a solid 6. I know Steve, Chaz, Mark, Park, Windisch and Nick are all capable of playing but I’m not sure they’re coming. On top of that I have a few other new names that could come granting they have the rig/game combo. If everyone in my head where to come we’d have about 16 people, which would be a motley LAN indeed. The final bit of news regarding the LAN is that I decided to rent a server for the month, namely a ranked BF2 server. If my mad plans work out we could all play on that and have all of our amazing skills be recorded and credited towards our stats. It remains to be seen how well my cable modem can handle that kind of bashing but it’s worth a shot never the less. Worst case we go back to the old Local LAN stand by, as it’s more about fun then points. If you’re interested or are coming let me know so I can make the arrangements in my head and get the space laid out. If everything goes aces we might even have to spill into the house from the garage.
